Summer Update

Hello there! I haven't posted here in a while because I'm in the process of moving to my own website instead of using blogger. Also, friends, I had to move the Watching Patch studio. Kind of a bittersweet time. The place I rented where I made Heavens and Speed of Sound was sold and I moved 30 blocks north to the Green Lake neighborhood. A lotta blood, sweat, and tears. But this new neighborhood is soooper nice, I must say. It reminds me of Italian horror movies from the 70's when its dark. And during the day its this ridiculously idyllic neighborhood. I've been busy directing social awareness short film for the university but look out for some more Watching Patch adventures this summer.

The Heavens --- "Not now"

Thought I'd post this scene, which was cut from the episodes, in advance of the Heavens DVD release. During a night of insomnia, Captain Andrew tries to get romantic with Captain Ida, but she isn't in the mood.

"The Heavens (Assembly)"

H Assembly Still 1

This morning I finished editing "The Heavens (Assembly)" - the version of the series that I'll be submitting to film festivals and will be available for download or on a DVD-R kit. It's 17 minutes and 20 seconds long. Whew. The whole internet series is 23.5 minutes, so it's a little slimmer but there's footage in it not seen on the web series.

The Heavens (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Heavens OST Cover

Hi there. Great news. The soundtrack to the Heavens is now downloadable for free. 55 minutes of kosmiche, deep space pop. That's about twice as long as all the episodes put together so there's a lot of great stuff here that didn't make it onto the show. By Peter Pearson. Here he's working with his collaborators Toshio Masuda, Derek Muro, Lorna Krier, and Ben Simon. Download here.

The Heavens Update August '11

IMG_0014_1738

Hi there. You probably noticed, the last episode I posted of the Heavens was the last of the series. We had been talking here and there of doing a second series about their trip back to the Milky Way, but now that we're talking about collaborating on a feature next year it seems unlikely. That and I kind of just want this little sci-fi drama made entirely in warehouses and bedrooms to stand alone. But I am finishing up this "assembly" version, a 25-minute edit of the series with some new shots and a slightly different pace. I'm in the process of arranging screenings at galleries and microcinemas in New York, Seattle, Portland, Milwaukee, Chicago, Salt Lake City and possibly Berlin. (If you don't live in these cities and want to help me put together a screening where you are, please contact me b.e.perkins@gmail.com)

the Heavens Episode 5: Barnaby's Comet is actually coming sooooon! It got derailed for a few months there. I've had it at picture lock since January, but Peter got busy with his album, and I went off and did a music video. But now I have all the tracks needed to complete the soundtrack! Stay tuned!

I had a dream last night that one of my plants (above) dumped a bunch of dirt on my computer. It was just a dream, but this morning I decided to clean up my desk space anyway. This was after recently shooting some material for episode four of The Heavens involving blood splattered flowers. Isn't that interesting. Also, below is a photograph from the screening I had recently at the Form/Space Atelier. It was a lovely, sunny day out that day.

The Heavens News

DSCN1887_1361

I recently got back from Milwaukee (below) and after a busy couple days working and volunteering have started work on the Heavens 4: "Inextricable Mental Confusion". It was sunny and I had the day off. Would you believe it: I've been living in this room for a month and a half and, because of overcast skies, I've had no idea what a great view of Mount Rainier is right out my window. By the way, the first three episodes of the heavens are screening in Belltown this Sunday. It's part of the Interstitial Theatre at Form/Space Atelier. The flyer I made for it is above.
