I recently found this book by Jan Dawson. It's an interesting little book, about magazine size, 32 pages long. Published by New York Zoetrope in 1976.

Finding His Voice, How Sound Motion Pictures Work (1929)

YPT -- Monster Mash//Family Tree

I edited together this mash up of monster movies and other films that've influenced You Poor Thing. To get a sense of all these disparate influences coming together. The music is the Castaways "Liar liar", a song that started the dialogue between me and the artist of the soundtrack, Jordan Davis. The clips were taken from Ariel, Inferno, Cat People, I Walked with a Zombie, The Leopard Man, Suspiria, Daisies, Brainiac, Valerie and her week of wonders, The Seventh Victim, Dreams the money can buy, and Hausu.

Sesame Street -- African Animals

"Well, all I have to say is: what is it going to do to the monkey?" Exactly. What is the leopard going to do with the monkey? I like anyone who only has that to say. That kid is ok with me.

Sergei Eisenstein: Film Form

film form

This one is from 1977, but it seems all cinema books about Soviet-era films have awesome soviet-era style graphic design. I haven't read this yet, and I've had it for years. Maybe its because any time I pick it up I just want to stare stupidly at its awesome cover.

For the first two minutes you might not think this is an anti-war film. Canada, 1966.

The Heavens --- "Not now"

Thought I'd post this scene, which was cut from the episodes, in advance of the Heavens DVD release. During a night of insomnia, Captain Andrew tries to get romantic with Captain Ida, but she isn't in the mood.
