All The Colors Of The Dark

I watched this film last weekend, All The Colors of the Dark. Bruno Nicolai's soundtrack has been buzzing around in my head ever since.

Pickpocket

One of the greatest of all hand films, Robert Bresson's "Pickpocket." This trailer is pretty super. It makes me want to watch the movie twice in a row and then read some Dostoevsky afterwards to chill out.

The Tomorrow People

I've been thinking about hands in films because of this music video I'm working on, "Sycamore Tree." The Tomorrow People is a British children's show from the 70's, like Fingerbobs, and also like Fingerbobs you can get the soundtrack from Trunk records. The show is about a new generation of kids that can do things like teleport, read minds, and stop violence. These credits have a collage-y look. That and the glitchy superimpositions in the show were a big inspiration for the look of The Heavens. These opening credits remind me of 20's avant-garde photos by Moholy-Nagy, for instance.

"You Poor Thing" sharpie font

ypt post

I was working on the "You Poor Thing" font. The slogan I threw on there is from CAN's "Monster Movie" album, it was printed on the back of the album. Seemed appropriate for a monster movie, right? Although that album really was recorded in a castle and our movie takes place in Riverwest, Milwaukee, where there are no castles.

"The Heavens (Assembly)"

H Assembly Still 1

This morning I finished editing "The Heavens (Assembly)" - the version of the series that I'll be submitting to film festivals and will be available for download or on a DVD-R kit. It's 17 minutes and 20 seconds long. Whew. The whole internet series is 23.5 minutes, so it's a little slimmer but there's footage in it not seen on the web series.

Fingerbobs

Jonny Trunk recently released this soundtrack. I thought it might make a good double feature with the Yvonne Rainer film I posted. I guess there was only one season of it made. The man performing the finger puppets is a mime, but in this video he talks.
